Winter Accessories – Men’s Gloves

Now that the weather has truly turned and I had to de-ice my car this morning(!) I thought it was time to start showcasing some of the new winter accessory collections that have been released by multiple designers. Gloves seemed a good place to start as they are very versatile and nearly everyone has a pair for those horrible cold days. The thing with winter accessories is they are supposed to be practical as well as stylish because the weather is so cold and they literally are there to make you feel comfortable.

Like we pointed out with the Mac though, practical items can be stylish and I think we have come a long way from the old days of slipping on a pair of simple cotton gloves to keep warm. These days you have designers creating leather versions, patterned gloves, fashion mittens, suede versions, cut offs, and so many more. There are literally hundreds of types, varieties and colours so it is hard to know where to start and what type of glove you are looking for.

Leather and suede gloves have an air of formality associated with them and even give off a bit of class and extravagance. These would be great for mixing with suits, professional wear and relaxed formal outfits. Paired with a great leather man bag and either shoes or boots, you can create a really smart look with clean lines – whatever you are wearing. Cut off or fingerless gloves are a more fashion forward approach to this winter accessory that All Saints have really concentrated on this year. I am a big fan of the cut off glove for the worker wear and rocker looks this year, as they are slightly more edgy and would look great paired with a check shirt and/or leather jacket.

One of the trends that occurred last year within men’s gloves was the mitten coming back into favour within the fashion crowds. Yesterday I went into length about how people are looking for something different these days to stand out and how old or “unfashionable” items are picked up by the minority and then picked up as a trend by the majority after that. I think the mitten was one of these items because to me they are associated with being a kid and getting wrapped up warm by my Mum and Dad for cold days – doesn’t exactly scream style right?! But the new twist to mittens is that you can get cut off gloves with a mitten cover stitched onto the back that you can pull over when it gets cold to create a mitten… two looks in one really. This means you can rock the fashionable cut off style as part of your outfit, but also gives you the practicality of a mitten when it is TOO cold.

105,000 Globalstar Telephone Subscribers Await Return of Full Service

Mobile satellite services provider Globalstar on May 6 said it has managed to hold on to 105,000 subscribers for its two-way voice service despite the service degradation in the past three years caused by a problem on the company’s satellites.

These telephone customers, the company said, will form the core of Globalstar’s revenue base as it returns to full service when its second-generation satellites are launched starting late this year.

Milpitas, Calif.-based Globalstar said that even as it has struggled to maintain its base of two-way voice subscribers, it has increased its customer base for what the company calls its Simplex messaging service, which has not been affected by the problem onboard the satellites.

The Simplex customer base has more than doubled in the past two years. As of March 31, the company said it had 225,250 Simplex customers, up 3 percent from Dec. 31. Customers coming from Globalstar’s international gateway operator partners totaled 63,800 as of March 31, down 1.4 percent from Dec. 31.

Globalstar has 24 second-generation satellites under construction, with the first six to be launched in September or October aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket from Russia’s Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Three more six-satellite launches are scheduled to be carried out in 2011.

Global Star Software Week: The Interview

Global Star Software Week here at the Pocket Goddess site ends with an interview with Jeff Quinn, Director of Product Development at GlobalStar Software. Enjoy!
Please tell us a little more about how Global Star Software got started.
Global Star Software was originally conceived in a small igloo, in the wilderness of Canada by two Canadians speaking “Canadian” that had nothing better to do due to the fact that the entire country is blanketed 90% of the time with a deep covering of snow. Actually truth be told the idea for Global Star came about as a result of the two founders of our national distribution company (Global Star Software Sister company) realizing that content would be king. Controlling content and distribution would give them a distinct advantage in the market already deeply entrenched with major Canadian powerhouse distributors focusing in the entertainment area like Beamscope. An idea that has proven itself over time as Beamscope is all but gone from the Landscape and Triad Distributors and Global Star Software live on and have been purchased just over two years ago by Take 2 Interactive
You’ve been involved in producing quality, low-cost software for desktop computers for quite a while. What made you decide to get into the handheld market?
The handheld market was an opportunity waiting to happen. Global Star Software has prided itself in being proactive and quick to pounce on opportunities as they present themselves. When we started to see people use the devices in everyday situations we believed they were ready for prime time and despite the hardware limitations we felt there was a demand. Further to that our belief is that Palms and handhelds are simply Game Boys for Adults with add-on contact managers J
Your first products for the Palm OS were mainly productivity and utility shareware packages. Now you’ve shifted to fully-licensed games for handhelds, such as Austin Powers Pinball, PortaPets, Shooting Gallery, and Mad Gab. Do you think handheld gaming is one of the largest growth areas in this market?

Globalstar Reduces Satellite Phone Call Rates To As Low As 17 Cents Per Minute

Satellite telephone service is now available for only pennies more than cellular, following a dramatic price reduction announced earlier today by Globalstar, the world's most popular handheld satellite phone service. Five new pricing plans are now available in the U.S., with high-usage packages priced as low as $0.17 per minute, and the recommended list price for handsets has been reduced to only $599.

Today, over 80% of the world's land surface and essentially all ocean regions remain outside the range of cellular telephone networks, yet until now the only reliable alternative for these remote areas - satellite telephony - has been financially prohibitive for many applications. Globalstar's new U.S. pricing plan intends to completely transform the marketplace for satellite telephone services, making mobile, high-quality wireless communications from virtually anywhere far more practical and affordable than ever before for both businesses and individuals.

The five pricing plans announced today let customers choose from a range of per-minute call charges based on their anticipated monthly usage, with a single, low rate for calls to any location in the U.S. and Canada, including their maritime regions. Calls from most locations in the Caribbean to points within the U.S. or Canada are also covered under these plans, with no long distance surcharge. These plans, which are up to 80% less expensive than previous price plans, are currently available only to U.S. and Caribbean customers, but the company expects to introduce comparable low-cost plans elsewhere in the world in the months ahead.

Searching for Foot Massager Reviews?

The other day when my wife came home from work she was suffering from having sore feet after a long day so I thought it’d be a good idea to look up some foot massager reviews on what types of models or brands could help her. You see, she works in a medical office where they are always on their feet for very long periods of time and after an entire day, plus overtime, then she begins to feel pain in her feet and heavy legs when she is trying to relax. But we really weren’t too sure which one would be best. I already have a couple back massagers in the home, so I know that finding good foot massager reviews would lead me to a great investment once again.

Over the years we have tried a variety of different types of foot massagers. Some were great and others were just terrible however we have formed some opinions over time and wold like to share those with other people who are looking to bring comfort and relief to their tired and sore feet.

Here are our foot massage reviews for everyone to gain an insight from:

1.3Q Foot & Calf Massager Leg Ankle Massage

This foot massager is the most recent buy that we made for our home. It was a Christmas present to ourselves a year ago and it seems that everyone in the home loves to use it too. The obvious thing to love about this massager is the fact that it will massage your feet and calf muscles as well. I particularly love getting my calves rubbed because it really just makes my legs feel so much better. My wife says the calf muscle massager really helps with the overall foot massage as well. Another thing to note with this foot massager reviews is that this model was quiet so it’s not making a lot of noise for others. You can set it to massage your feet or calves individually or at the same time. Different settings are available if you’d like to use the vibration or massager or both simultaneously. We really enjoy this unit a lot – might have to get another one so my wife and I don’t have to wait turns after work!

Inmarsat Negotiating Purchase Of Satellite Services Company

Mobile satellite services operator Inmarsat has opened negotiations with an unnamed satellite services provider on acquiring the company in a purchase that would cost less than $150 million and bring $50 million in annual revenue, Inmarsat said.

London-based Inmarsat said the acquisition target generated more than $50 million in revenue in 2008, is currently profitable and “will have no material indebtedness at closing.” The negotiations were disclosed in a Nov. 9 Inmarsat submission to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Inmarsat has long said that, unlike other mobile satellite operators, it has no big investments that it needs to make to deliver on its core services. Its three Inmarsat 4 satellites are in orbit and, earlier this year, were repositioned to maximize global coverage.

The company’s purchase of mobile satellite services distributor Stratos Global of Bethesda, Md., has been completed, and its investment in a handheld satellite telephone service is not a drain on its current cash flow.

Inmarsat on Nov. 9 reported that revenue for the three months ending Sept. 30 was $176.7 million, up 8.7 percent over the previous year. After accounting for differences in how Inmarsat discounts its services to its distributors — the discount policy changed in Inmarsat’s favor in April — the revenue growth was 7 percent for the three months ending Sept. 30. That is a lower rate of growth than earlier in the year, but Inmarsat Chief Financial Officer Rick Medlock said the company is maintaining its full-year forecast that revenue will increase by 6 percent to 8 percent in 2009 compared with 2008.

Thermage Treatment

Thermage treatment is the latest non-surgical tool to reverse the signs of aging and sun damage. The non-invasive procedure works by using heat from a radio frequency device to tighten or lift the skin. Initially, the thermage treatment was FDA approved to treat the eye and forehead areas, though in June 2004 thermage treatment received FDA clearance for the full face. Although the thermage treatment does not replace a facelift, the procedure has facelift benefits without the cost, pain, anesthesia, incisions or downtime.

Plastic surgeons believe thermage treatment is most ideal for people in mid-to-late 30s, or older people with just mild photoaging or wrinkled skin. Patients wishing to see immediate, drastic results may not choose thermage treatment since it has subtle before and after differences. The way the thermage treatment works is by sending radio waves down to heat the deeper layers in order to cause new collage to form. At first, there will be little noticeable change but weeks to months later the improvements will begin to show.

The thermage treatment pulls out wrinkles and raises eyebrows. Since thermage is still considered a new addition to cosmetic procedures, researchers are still determining how long the results last, though estimates have ranged from six months to two years. Doctors use a device that sends out a cooling spray to protect the outer layer of the skin at the same time the radio frequency energy generates the heat in the lower layer of skin. Described as mildly uncomfortable, thermage treatment takes just about an hour and most patients are able to immediately return to their daily schedules.

Latest Tattoo Removal News

Still the preferred method of tattoo removal, Lasers have been making advances in effectiveness which should eventually
translate into faster clearance and less pain during the typical removal session. The best thing about fast clearance is fewer treatments and a lower cost to remove the average tattoo.

If laser is the way you are going there is some basic information that can help you find the best laser clinic in your area. If your tattoo has any red, orange, pink or lighter colors you will need a 532nm green light laser for quick and effective clearance. If you have green, turquoise, sky blue, teal, etc. you will need a 755nm red laser to do a proper job. A 1064nm infrared laser is what you will need to clear black, dark blue, brown and darker colors. All three lasers can be used at the same treatment time, as the lasers will only work on the color that it is attracted to.

The laser brands currently on the market that are most effective at ridding the skin of the above described tattoo ink are, in order of effectiveness:

1). Affinity QS-Q Switch 532nm/1064nm
2). Medlite/RevLite - Q Switch 532nm/1064nm
3). Accolade - Q Switch 755nm

Knowing which lasers you need for the colors in your tattoo can save money by preventing unscrupulous laser removal clinics from knowingly using the wrong laser in order to require more return visits.

TrackMe II | Satellite Phone Tracking

A compact Thuraya satellite phone attachment that gives users combined global tracking, panic, voice and messaging capabilities. The TrackMe II provides operations staff with near-real time information on the status and location of their organisation’s personnel, vehicles and maritime vessels and the rapid notification needed to respond to an incident.

Attached to a Thuraya satellite phone the personal tracking device acquires its exact location using the latest handheld GPS tracking. It transmits that position information via the local GSM network or the Thuraya satellite network.

The TrackMe II has been designed not only to track personnel and assets such as vehicles and boats, but also - by virtue of an integral panic alarm - for their security. The satellite phone can continue to be used as normal while the device is attached.

Tracking

Position reports are sent via GSM or, in non-GSM areas within Thuraya's 120-country footprint, by satellite to the Track24 crisis management software; the C4i Platform. The frequency of reports can be set to whatever operational circumstances dictate, the rate being remotely configurable from the C4i Platform.

The security tracking device can be installed in a vehicle or maritime vessel using an optional docker (see image on the left).

Panic alarm

When the personal tracker's panic button is pressed an audible and visual alarm will appear on the C4i Platform, allowing operations staff to initiate an appropriate response. The platform will automatically generate SMS and email alerts to specified contacts. In addition the TrackMe II Satellite phone tracking device has an automated panic dial-out feature that allows remote listening in as events on the ground unfold.

Garment Bags

Choosing a garment bag for storage or travel

A well-chosen garment bag is essential for the frequent traveler or the homeowner who has a few special items that need extra care. Garment bags are available in cloth, leather, vinyl, nylon and other materials. While there are garment bags made for storage, short transport and travel, most bags are only suitable for one use.

Types of Garment Bags

A plastic garment bag, such as the type used by dry cleaners and clothing retailers, should never be allowed to cover an item of clothing for a long period of time. Some believe that these bags can cause light-colored items to yellow prematurely. For people concerned about the environment, bringing your own cloth garment bag is an acceptable option for many dry cleaners.

A clear garment bag is useful for storage, especially when used to store a single item. When choosing a clear garment bag, try to find one that is breathable, but also insect-resistant. A vinyl garment bag is inexpensive and a good solution for storing some items; most clear garment bags are made of this material. For clothing that might be damaged by UV rays, a solid cloth bag may be a better solution.

How to Choose a Sink

You can expect to spend an average of eight percent of your budget on kitchen fixtures and fittings, predominantly on sinks and faucets. Sink shape and size are important, and when checking out a sink's size, pay attention to its depth, too: Bargain sinks may be six or seven inches deep, where eight inches is the standard and ten inches is preferable if you wash a lot of stockpots, pasta pots, and roasters.

A corner sink is a great way to make use of space that might otherwise be wasted.
©2006 Publications International, Ltd.
A corner sink is a great way to make
use of space that might otherwise
be wasted.

Popular kitchen sink configurations include the typical single, large rectangular basin; the double-bowled sink with both sinks the same size for hand-washing and rinsing; or the double-bowled sink with one side considerably smaller, housing the garbage disposer. Three-bowl sinks are also available, in which two larger bowls flank a small, center bowl with the garbage disposer installed; this bowl is often topped with a removable cutting board.

In space-challenged kitchens, a pair of matching "corner-square" sinks can make use of an awkward corner and free up straight runs of counter for work space. "Corner circle" sinks serve the same function but have a more avant-garde look. A small square or round sink may be used as a vegetable sink in an island or as a bar sink for a wet bar in the great room. Some kitchens also feature a small, shallow, kidney-shaped sink as a second, accessory sink.

GPS Phones-Global Positioning System Mobile Phones

Imagine you are somewhere traveling in USA and far away from say Connecticut your base there. And on the way to an important encounter more than a few intersection

If you have a GPS phone that is. GPS or Global Positioning System is the feature that tells you exactly where you are in this planet to the last 10 metres, and also provides information on related aspects like the direction in which you are heading and altitude, etc.

GPS originally came into existence chiefly to help out the US Army and now is available for civilian purposes and you have GPS attached to your car, and mobile phone handset. The mere fact that your  handset is now fitted with a built-in is adequate enough to transform your otherwise simple dolly into an all powerful satellite navigation device that is capable of aiding you with route planning and providing guidelines regarding the nearest gas station to eating joints, and ATMs.

Starting with RIM produced Blackberry smartphones, almost all the leading mobile phone makers inclding Nokia, Samsung, HTC, Sony Ericsson, all have brought out very good gps phones You have even GPS phones O2, that are essentially handsets that this network carrier has brought out with the GPS facility.

The Next Wavelength: Satellite Broadband Becomes Personal

Communications media has been using satellite broadband for many years; you will probably recognize the type of equipment in the photo below.  The top-of-vehicle dish arrangement is also used by various field investigators, be they archaeologists or law enforcement, and by health care workers in remote areas of the globe. Combined with a satellite phone, the car dish ensures quality phone communication.

In the U.S., most satellite telephones are used by emergency personnel, government agencies, air and space agencies, and maritime workers.  While globally, the satellite phone is being rapidly adopted for personal use, it's not the in thing yet, except among those who need it professionally.  But the satellite mobile phone offers reliable communication of both voice and data.

The satellite phone is predicted to be the phone of the future, soon to replace the cell phone as the desirable technology.  Some personal mobile phones are being designed with both cell and satellite technologies right now. They are a lot more expensive than cell phones, but the more mobile satellite technology is advanced, the greater the competition, the less expensive the price, and the 'smarter' they'll be.  And very soon, several airlines will be permitting satellite phone use during travel.

It is an ideal training for anybody working within the industry wanting to further their career opportunities, although students with no experience can enrol.

Students will be required to come into the college for two days each week for three ten week terms, although students will be required to study outside these hours including out-of-term project work. The days at the college run from 10.00am - 4.00pm.

Each term of the part-time course runs for 10 weeks:
The September start date runs on Monday and Tuesdays
The January start date runs on Wednesday and Thursdays

THE ROLE OF AN INTERIOR DECORATOR
There is often some confusion between the role of an interior designer and an interior decorator. In its simplest form, an interior designer would carry out the planning and design of a space whereas an interior decorator would advise on the style, arrangement and decoration of surfaces within that space (usually domestic), and this could include the furniture layout, colour scheme, soft furnishings, window treatments and accessories.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
No previous art or design experience is necessary but students must be at least eighteen years old and mature students are particularly encouraged. Entry is by an informal interview and numbers are strictly limited. The purpose of the interview is to discuss applicants' motivation, academic ability and the reasons for undertaking the training. English language ability must also be competent and we look for a minimum score of 6 on the International English Language Testing System or its equivalent. Students on KLC’s Certificate Courses must have their own computer for internet research and general word processing functions.

Buyer's Guide to Kitchen Sinks

The kitchen may be the heart of the home, but the sink handles most of the daily chores. That's because it's the only working area used to both prepare meals and clean up after them. Although quality sinks can last 15 years or more, they do wear out. Finishes start to dull or chip, and annoying leaks appear mysteriously around the rim and drain. And if you're planning a kitchen remodel, it makes sense to replace your sink and faucet.

Manufacturers offer sinks in a variety of materials and styles, from gleaming stainless steel and durable porcelain on cast iron to several newer materials. Sinks are also one of the lowest-priced components of a kitchen remodel. Although some high-end models carry four-digit price tags, there is a wealth of well-made sinks on the market starting at around $200.

We'll cover buying a quality kitchen sink that won't break your budget and tell you what to look for in a pro installation. We'll also discuss some developments in the faucets section, including the latest styles, colors and features, and the companies that offer them.

How Much Does a Satellite Phone Cost?

Satellite phones can be incredibly useful for people who travel to land or water areas that do not have access to other types of phones. Customers who need satellite phones have several major brands to choose from when selecting a phone and a service plan.

Significance

  • The cost of a satellite phone includes the initial expense of the phone itself. It also includes the cost for a monthly subscription, the minutes used for each call and any activation fees. Satellite phones range in price from about $700 to $1,300, depending on the brand, its features and the retailer that's selling it. Basic subscriptions generally cost about $50 per month, but these subscriptions--unlike cell phone plans--do not include any minutes or airtime. The cost of airtime varies widely depending on the type of call; it may range from $1 to $10 per minute. Activation fees for most satellite phones run about $40 to $50.
  • Types

  • The major brands of satellite phones include Inmarsat, Iridium and Thuraya. The Inmarsat IsatPhone is a handset style phone that costs about $700. The Iridium handset phone costs about $1,500, and Thuraya offers satellite phones for about $1,000 to $1,300. Minutes for the Inmarsat IsatPhone cost about $1 for voice calls to PSTN or cell phones, $2 for calls to most other Inmarsat phones, and $3 to Iridium or Thuraya satellite phones. Iridium charges about $1 per minute for calls to PSTN phones or voice mail, less than $1 per minute for calls to other Iridium phones and over $10 per minute for calls to other brands of satellite phones. Calls between Thuraya phones cost about $1 per minute, while calls to other brands of satellite phones cost about $6 per minute and calls to other types of phones cost about $1.50 per minute.

How Currency Trading Works - Interbank and the Forex

As discussed before, like most markets, the forex essentially works because many participants are buying and selling a fairly uniform product. Currency contracts at the retail level are most often denominated in 100,000 or 10,000 units of the base currency in the pair. A few dealers will also break a lot into units smaller than that, but a full-size 100K or mini-size 10K lot is the most common.inside the forex

Forex dealers can be classified as over-the-counter market makers. That means that when you are buying a currency pair, they are the seller. Likewise, when you are selling a currency pair, they are the buyer. The quotes you see on a trading platform are the prices the dealer is willing to buy or sell the currency contract for.

That seems pretty straight forward, but you may wonder how the prices offered by all the dealers are virtually identical if they (the dealers) are independent. That question causes a lot of confusion in the market, even for experienced traders. Oddly enough, the source of that confusion is, in some cases, the dealers themselves.

That’s why it’s vital to educate yourself on the dealing process, and to carefully investigate a dealer before opening an account.

To get a better idea how all this works behind the scenes, let’s take a look at forex market participants and how they relate to each other.

    Satellite Phone Service

While each satellite service provider offers it's own unique benefits and advantages the best phone for you will ultimately depend on your application and destination (a satellite phone does not always translate into a world phone with global coverage).

For your consideration we have listed a brief introductory section on each satellite phone describing the highlights: coverage area, rates and popular features.

We recommend that you review all three options in order to find the satellite phone that best suits your needs.

If you work, live or travel in areas outside normal cellular coverage or in areas with inadequate landline service, a satellite phone will work for you.

Eighty-six percent of the world's landmass and all of its oceans are in areas with poor telecommunications infrasture for regular landline services.

A satellite phone addresses these situations by providing coverage in all ocean areas, air routes and all geographic areas - even the North and South Pole.

Satellite phones are a solution and are offered by industry leading satellite providers including Iridium, Globalstar & Thuraya.

Unlike a GSM international cell phone a satellite phone offers a telecommunications connection that is independent of your location.

Shipping Container Prices Set To Rise By Year End

Shipping containers are always in demand as these are used all over the world for shipping commodities from one place to another. Singamas Container Holdings Ltd., the world’s second-biggest maker of shipping boxes, said prices will rise as much as 9 percent by year-end as shippers struggle for containers amid rebounding global trade. CEO Teo Siong Seng of the company also said that the price of the standard twenty foot box was already up by 50% and it was expected to climb up to $3000 by the end of the year. Teo also said that globally, there may be a container shortfall of as many as 4 million. The shipping container manufacturing industry is yet to get back in gear as they have to reactivate plant that were idled during the global recession of the past year. The lack of boxes has led to shipping lines refusing cargos and raising their prices.

Um Kyung-A, a trade analyst at Shinyoung Securities Co. in Seoul said, “Shipping lines have to bring back empty containers from Europe and the U.S. to meet Asia’s export demand.” With the tribulations in the shipping industry, it is the right time for investors to invest in the shipping industry and fill in the demand for shipping containers by buying new containers and providing them to companies that require containers for shipping purposes.

    Hand Held Satellite Phone Service

To many people the concept of the uses and benefits of a satellite phone may be something new. These marvels of technology simply work in places where regular mobile phones won't.

This means that using a cell phone on the streets, at your workplace, home and even when you go abroad are quite normal, however cell phones cannot be used in the most remote places like when at sea, on mountains, on a desert and other remote places. In such places, coverage for the normal cell phone is limited or non-existent and these are the places where satellite phones work their magic.

Satellite phone send and receive calls via orbiting satellite technology. As you can imagine building up a service to cover most of the earth's surface with a clear reception is a very technologically challenging and expensive project. That is why most service providers charge a fairly steep rate per minute for voice and data communications. Though it may seem feasible for everyone to use these instead of cell phones, there are some disadvantages that have to be considered. The main disadvantage is related to its coverage and the fact that it does not work indoors at all. Satellite phones have bad coverage near tall buildings too or in bad weather. This means that they cannot be taken with you into building, shopping centers or even be used at home.

Another disadvantage of them is that they are relatively larger than cell phones and difficult to carry with you when you go shopping, although recent years handsets became very popular and more and more retailers are offering these relatively smaller mobile units. The best place to use satellite phones is on trips to remote places like the desert, forests, seas or when you go mountain climbing as regular cell phones don't work in such locations.

Why buy when you can rent? Phone rental startup targets gadget-obsessed

Three people with a healthy obsession for cellphones; that’s all it took to start Rentobile, a young company that rents popular handsets to U.S. consumers who want a shiny new device, but are stuck in the middle of a lengthy contract.

Two years was much too long for Seungcheol Lee, one of Rentobile’s partners, to wait to get his hands on a different handset. Lee and Rentobile’s two other partners, all of whom all spring from design and graphics backgrounds, decided to take their love of the latest technology and turn it into a business plan. The company is not a mobile operator; it doesn’t offer service plans, usage charges, etc.

“The three of us are really obsessed with phones,” Lee laughed. “We want a new phone every month and one day we thought wait, maybe there are more people who want to rent instead of buy.”

It works quite simply. New Jersey-based Rentobile buys certain phones from each carrier, at full price, and then rents them to the carriers’ customers for a monthly fee.

Get The Latest News About The Satellite Phone Vs Mobile Cell Phones

What could be the distinction among a satellite phone along with a cell phone? Mobile cell phones count on terrestrial networks to complete a call whereas sat phones rely on orbiting satellites - the satellite mobile phone would be the equivalent of the cellular mobile phone mast. This signifies that sat cell phones are suitable for individuals travelling in remote destinations exactly where there's no cell mobile phone protection. It also suggests that satellite handsets are essential in circumstance of emergency for instance a hurricane or earthquake - usually the neighborhood mobile cellular phone infrastructure is destroyed which makes calls by mobile telephone impossible.

Although call expenses are far more pricey making use of a satellite phone when you're in a region with no traditional communication techniques, sat mobile phones are critical. As this map from GSM Globe shows, you'll find still vast regions of the globe that aren't covered by GSM networks. Compare this while using Iridium satellite mobile phone network which provides global protection and you are able to see how helpful sat phone are.

Another difference among satellite phones and mobile cell phones are the handsets utilized. Satellite handset have a built in extendable antenna which enables the mobile phone to pick up a satellite phone signal. Apart from the extendable antenna the handsets are now really comparable in size and weight to cellular phones generating them quite effortless to carry when travelling.

    Iridium 9505A satellite phone

The Iridium 9505A is a satellite phone with fast signal acquisition and a semi-rugged chassis that makes it resistant to water and shocks. Unfortunately, it is expensive and doesn't offer GSM network access.

The Iridium 9505A satellite phone is quite big. Rubber around the sides of the phone reduces the impact of shocks, and the buttons are designed to prevent water from seeping into the electronics (it's water resistant, not waterproof). If you're planning to travel over rough country, it will stand up to a fair bit of bumpy driving.

The Iridium 9505A's rotatable antenna sits at 45 degree angle when the phone is held vertically. This is so that when you are making a call, the antenna points directly upwards. When the antenna is rotated in line with the handset it can make the phone awkward to carry, but it's easily detachable for portability.

Iridium prides itself on being a work-focussed, no-frills satellite phone maker, and the lack of smartphone features supports this. Unlike the Thuraya SG-2520 satellite phone, which offers a built-in camera, picture-based menu system and MP3 player, the Iridium 9505A is a basic handset that has a simple list-format menu and a monochrome display.

    All About Satellite Phone Service

Only a couple of decades ago, we understood and accepted that for 'ordinary people', phone service required a physical phone line and was therefore limited to obvious places like home, office, and payphones.

Now with the explosive growth of cell phones, we realize that phone service is not restricted to where there's a phone wire.  But there's still a lot of the planet - 85% - that isn't conveniently close to a mobile phone transmitting tower and so there's no regular phone signal.

Satellite phones can provide the ultimate in global coverage.  But there are trade-offs.  Satellite phones are bulkier than regular cell phones, and while in theory their coverage might be close to universal, they usually don't work inside buildings or anywhere that has an obscured view of the sky.

Satellite phones are also considerably more expensive to purchase, and their airtime rates are also higher.

But, if you absolutely need a convenient and portable way of keeping in contact, they are the only option available.

How is Satellite Phone Service different to normal cell phone service?

Wireless phone services have much in common, whether they are using satellites or transmitting towers.

They are both using radio waves rather than land lines to send their signal.  But because satellite phones have less bandwidth than regular cell phones, you may notice a bit poorer quality sound, and because they are designed to use the absolute minimum amount of satellite time, they lack some of the convenience we've come to expect of regular cell phones.

For sure, no-one would ever prefer to use a satellite phone instead of a modern cell phone, but equally for sure, when you're out of regular cell phone service, a satellite phone suddenly becomes a very good alternative.

Surprisingly (perhaps) there are already a fairly broad range of different satellite phone services available, some of which date back 25 years or more.

    Satellite Telephone Technology Explained

With recent developments in technology, everything is instant, life becomes more convenient.

Even in the field of communication, there is no need for us to exert too much effort - unlike the past when it took quite a long time for our predecessors to pass a message from one place to another.

But now, it is much easier. Inventors are not content with the modernization of telephones and cellular phones, they still discern for something more innovative. This, then, is Satellite Phone Technology.

So, what is a Satellite Phone?

It refers to a subscription radio service. It is similar to cable television - it provides for a wider range of programming and functions that cannot be found on traditional AM or FM radios.

A satellite phone is a telephone-like device that sends radio signals direct to a satellite, then back to the earth station from where the call can be directed to the so-called 'Public Switched Telephone Network' or the PSTN that serves as a cellular network. The Low Earth Orbiting or the LEO is the most commonly used satellite now. The gateway processes make everything possible because even if the person is in the middle of nowhere, he can still access to the satellite phone network, by using compatible satellite phones.

Satellite phones are used globally but the only exemption is it cannot work indoors. Bear in mind that, there is a necessity for a clear line of sight from telephone to satellite to utilize the satellite telephone system. The more open the space you are in, the better the reception. This is why satellite phones are used extensively in the desert. The weather condition also affects the performance of the system. Satellite phones have limited bandwidth.

The South Beach Diet and Quick Weight Loss

When The Dukes of Hazard was released in 2005, former reality TV co-star of MTV’s Newleyweds (along with now ex-husband Nick Lachey) Jessica Simpson made no secret about how hard she worked to make her body ready for the scantily-clad scenes in which she appears. Besides working out six days a week, Simpson revealed she also strictly adhered to the now famous "South Beach Diet". Since then, the diet and its founder Dr. Arthur Agatston, have become household names to millions of weight loss junkies worldwide.

But how does this so-called "low carb diet" stack up to its claims of guaranteed fast weight loss and life-long health? We’re here to tell you.

What is the South Beach Diet?

Although the South Beach Diet has been touted as falling under the "low-carb diets" category, it should by no means be compared to the Atkins Diet, which not only promotes a significant reduction in carbohydrates, but also encourages high fat (even saturated fat) consumption. The South Beach Diet on the other hand, does not market itself under the moniker of either low-carb or low-fat diet, as it promotes eating the "good" versions of both in moderation.

Originally designed to treat patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases, the story goes that Dr. Agatston discovered that while following his diet plant to improve their overall heart health, his patients were also loosing weight. The rest, as they say, is history.

How To Use A French Press Coffee Maker

The most popular coffee maker in Europe and Australia is the classy French Press . Also known as the plunger pot, coffee press, or press-pot. This stylish coffee maker is making in-roads in America and coffee addicts swear by it.

This popular method uses a cylindrical glass carafe and a stainless steel mesh filter to separate the coffee grounds from the water. The grounds stay at the bottom and the strained coffee stays above the filter, ready to pour.

    Important:

French Press brewing is used to make fresh coffee to consume immediately! It is not good to leave the coffee in the press for any length of time.

Tailor the size of the press or the amount you make to what can be consumed in 10 minutes or so. Do not try to keep the coffee warm. Don't let the coffee sit long in the press; even in the plunged position as it continues to extract. If you need hot coffee for a longer period and want to use the French Press, decant the coffee into a thermos after brewing.

French Water Cure Diet's New Alchemy Method Transforms Dead Tap Water into Curative Living Water

French Water Cure Diet recently introduced an eclectic alchemic method to convert plain water into cured water for increasing the energetic aura of the body and life extension. The materials in the $100 kit include a mix of over 80 electrolytic crystal minerals, a permeable transformer curing rod, a vortex bottle connecter and a patented hydromotivator hydration monitor.

Users making cured water and drinking it for daily hydration have reported a sense of euphoria with higher awareness, boundless energy, clear thinking, better creativity, and intuitive receptivity. Sharon Genung, owner of Sharon's Crystal Palace in Moline, IL, reports that the French Water Cure Diet is the hottest-selling item in her store alongside all other New Age items. "Many of my customers have been looking for an alchemy water transforming curing product like this for years. We're elated to hear of the many reported benefits. I'm hearing reports of cures ranging from diabetes, weight loss and asthma. I've had a nagging pain in my Achilles Heel for years and now it's gone."

Michael Grady, of Davenport, Iowa, inventor of the French Water Cure Diet, said that cured water can holistically detoxify the body so that anyone who drinks it consistently can become more of who they already are. "This Diet represents a very personal ushering in of the Age of Aquarius," said Grady, who is himself a Pisces-Aquarius cusp, born on February 20th. "A toxin-free body must accompany a toxin-free mind. Mother Earth is depending on its inhabitants to renounce pollution, dangerous drugs and chemicals in the body for it to awaken to a New Age of peace and enlightenment. The medium to accomplish this is water, for we are mostly water and so is our planet."

    New satellite phone launched

The phone is bigger than usual; it takes a bit longer to connect than normal; and on a couple of my calls my mother's voice sounded like she was underwater.

In fact the call was far from the sea - going instead thousands of miles direct from the handset up to a satellite and into her home a thousand miles away. Welcome to the world of satellite.

    Worrying history

The history of satellite telephone companies is very unhappy. Iridium which is already up and running has filed for bankruptcy protection - as has ICO Global Communications, which hasn't even started service yet.

But launching a new service is what Globalstar did at the trade show Telecom 99 in Geneva.

And the company predicted it would make a profit by 2001, as it unveiled an $18 million dollar offensive to win customers.

The concept of satellite phones is delightful. It's a phone that uses dozens of satellites orbiting the world and lets you make phone calls from just about anywhere. As long as the thick antennae can see the sky, you can talk.

But the reality has been anything but pleasant. The increase of cellular coverage and better reception meant many prospective customers were no longer interested.

Today's tri-digital phones can be used in just about every country at moderate cost to the business user.

    Satellite Phone Rental Options

Satellite phones are a reliable mode of communication in wilderness travel, airplanes, boating, safaris, and mountaineering in areas such as South Pole and North Pole and any other remote place on the earth. These phones are preferred in remote areas where the terrestrial cellular service is unavailable. A satellite phone uses orbiting satellites as a medium of communication unlike the cell phone which uses terrestrial cell towers. Hence a satellite phone can be used at any place on earth where there are no big obstructions like big buildings or trees. These phones would function perfectly well on hill tops or on high seas.

    Satellite Phone Models

Satellite phone models and mobile phone models are not very different. Different satellite phone models are available from diverse brands. Some of the most used satellite phone models are Iridium 9555, Iridium 9505A, Globalstar GSP 1600, Globalstar GSP-1700, Thuraya SG-2510.

Some of the common features available in satellite phones are as follows:

    • Standby time of 30+ hours
    • Email and enhanced SMS capability
    • Call History for received, missed and dialed calls
    • Integrated speakerphone
    • Illuminated 200-character display with volume, signal and battery meter
    • Illuminated keypad
    • Call timers help you manage costs
    • SIM-based address book stores up to 155 entries
    • Security Features: Keypad lock and SIM PIN lock
    • 100-entry internal address book for phone numbers, email addresses and notes

Many of the above stated features are common in satellite phones. However, some models might have less or additional features depending on the model and satellite phone service provider. Atkins Diet Plan

The Atkins Diet Plan gained popularity in 1972 with the publication of Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution. Dr. Atkins, the founder and former Executive Medical Director of The Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine, was one of the first vocal proponents of a low-carbohydrate diet. Long a voice for nutritional medicine, that first book has spawned newly revised versions as well as diet variations such as the South Beach Diet.

The diet’s popularity has waxed and waned over the last several decades and has come under fire from certain parts of the established medical and nutrition communities, due to its higher intake of cholesterol and calories from fat. But is has proven fairly effective for those that have followed the diet faithfully.

    Basic Diet Tenets/Nutritional Philosophy

This Atkins Diet weight loss (and weight maintenance) program is based on the theory that your body needs more protein and less carbs. It is rooted in the science of eating fewer refined carbohydrates and refined sugars – what we refer to as ‘bad carbs.’”

The Atkins Diet Revolution gives you the tools to change your eating habits, adopting a permanent lifestyle change that helps you lose and maintain your weight without having to count calories (although you will have to learn to gauge carb counts). Dr. Atkins believed that you would feel better, look better, and be re-energized by following the basic tenets of the diet.

Satellite Phone System To Erase Boundaries

Before the decade is out, you will be able to pull a telephone from your overcoat and make a call from anywhere on Earth.

Motorola Inc. announced plans today to build a satellite-based cellular-phone system that would allow users of a portable, 25-ounce phone to make and receive calls in regions where phone service is troublesome or unavailable.

Current portable phones cannot be used in many areas because they rely on radio antennas atop buildings or towers being close enough to relay a signal.

Motorola's Iridium system, which has been under development since 1987 and is expected to be fully operating by 1996, envisions a constellation of 77 satellites to relay calls. Motorola said it hopes to charge less than $3,500 for each phone.

Motorola, the world's largest maker of cellular phones, is the first company to announce plans for such a system.

    Business Plan Basics

Business planning is about results. You need to make the contents of your plan match your purpose. Don’t accept a standard outline just because it’s there.

    What is a business plan?
A business plan is any plan that works for a business to look ahead, allocate resources, focus on key points, and prepare for problems and opportunities. Unfortunately, many people think of business plans only for starting a new business or applying for business loans. But they are also vital for running a business, whether or not the business needs new loans or new investments. Businesses need plans to optimise growth and development according to priorities.

    What’s a start-up plan?
A simple start-up plan includes a summary, mission statement, keys to success, market analysis, and break-even analysis. This kind of plan is good for deciding whether or not to proceed with a plan, to tell if there is a business worth pursuing, but it is not enough to run a business with.

Is there a standard business plan?
A normal business plan (one that follows the advice of business experts) includes a standard set of elements. Business plan layouts and outlines vary, but generally a plan will include components such as descriptions of the company, product or service, market, forecasts, management team, and financial analysis.

    Advantages of Satellite Phones

Well, they may be expensive but if you can afford it and think it MAY be possible that you will use it, then I would get a service for sure. I can tell you that my family has used them on many occasions.

I remember a time that we were traveling to Idaho, and Montana to get our Log Home Plans designed. On the way home we came across an older gentleman who had slid off of the road and barely and I mean barley hanging on and not sliding off into the river. The roads were very slick, full of snow and dangerous. Fortunately we were able to help this gentleman by using our Globalstar Satellite phone. This poor man could have been stuck out there for hours before someone was able to get to a town and call for a tow truck and police officer.

Another time we have used this valuable technological device has been when my husband’s souped up old Ford broke down on our way home. We live in the country and cell phones do not work in many spots. Well, with our satellite phone, we were able to call for help.

    Las Vegas Hotel Guide

If there's one thing Vegas has, it's hotels. Big hotels. And lots of them. You'll find 9 of the 10 largest hotels in the United States -- 8 of the top 10 in the world -- right here. And you'll find a whole lot of rooms: 140,000 rooms, give or take, as of this writing. Every 5 minutes, or so it seems, someone is putting up a new giant hotel or adding another 1,000 rooms to an existing one. So finding a place to stay in Vegas should be the least of your worries.

    Or should it?

When a convention, a fight, or some other big event is happening -- and these things are always happening -- darn near all of those 140,000 rooms are going to be sold out. (Over the course of a regular year, the occupancy rate for hotel rooms in Las Vegas runs at about 90%.) A last-minute Vegas vacation can turn into a housing nightmare. If possible, plan in advance so that you can have your choice: Ancient Egypt or Ancient Rome? New York or New Orleans? Strip or Downtown? Luxury or economy? Vegas has all that and way too much more.

The bottom line is that with a few, mostly subtle differences, a hotel room is a hotel room is a hotel room. After you factor in location, price, and whether you have an Egypt-loving kid, there isn't that much difference between rooms, except for perhaps size and the quality of their surprisingly similar furnishings.

Hotel prices in Vegas are anything but fixed, so you will notice wild price ranges. The same room can routinely go for anywhere from $60 to $250, depending on demand. So use our price categories with a grain of salt, and don't rule out a hotel just because it's listed as "Very Expensive" -- on any given day, you might get a great deal on a room in a pricey hotel. Just look online or call and ask.
